Who is eligible to compete at TAFF?

TAFF welcomes any filmmaker to compete who has a film that explores, explains, or exemplifies the Gospel of Christ or
whose film examines redemptive themes of the Bible (such as self sacrifice, forgiveness, etc.) and whose film has not had a national theatrical release.

Themes

TAFF is looking for quality films that “explore, explain, or emulate the Gospel, the truths of the Gospel, or the themes of the Gospel.” And that this can be done in a variety of ways. The film does not have to be openly evangelical but should have the Gospel at its core. The kinds of redemptive films we are looking for are ones that have themes of forgiveness, unconditional love, sacrifice, self sacrifice, honor, loving your neighbor, selflessness, etc.- themes of how Christ lived and how Christians are to live their lives.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions for TAFF 2012

How can I Participate?

TAFF’s desire is that you feel part of this film fest. So, we ask for your participation. This festival is a competition. We wish to support the filmmakers in their important work. Therefore we offer cash awards for each competition category. You, as an audience member, can help decide the winner of the AUDIENCE FAVORITE AWARD. Ballots are provided. We ask that you fill out one card per person and place it in a BALLOT BOX. On Saturday evening we will have our AWARDS ceremony to honor those films that most effectively spread the Gospel.

How are films nominated for awards by the judges?

A TAFF Judge’s Selection Committee is created for each TAFF competition. The committee consists of three to seven judges who are experts in one of the following: theatre, television, video, or the film industry. To avoid conflict of interest and undue influence, the identities of each judge is kept secret even from each other.
Each judge watches numerous hours of film, selects films to be accepted into the fest, and nominates the best film for each category. The final results of the competition are revealed not only to the audience but also to the judges at the Awards Ceremony on Saturday evening.

What is the 'TAFF Rating System'?

The TAFF rating system is a bit more stringent than the MPAA ratings at your local movie theater. Our ratings are:

  • G – general audience. Suitable for all ages.
  • PG – Parental guidance. Suitable for youth over 12 with a parent or attending adult.
  • PG 13 – Parental guidance. Suitable for youth 13 and over with a parent or attending adult.
  • PG 15 – Parental guidance. Suitable for youth 15 and over with a parent or attending adult.
  • R – No one under 18 admitted to the screening.

Festival Etiquette

When arriving at a screening room to see the next film, we ask that you do NOT enter until the previous film’s credits are concluded. Please be as quiet as possible while waiting to enter. And of course, please put your phones and pagers on silent mode while films are screening. We thank you in advance for your cooperation in this! And we are sure the filmmakers do, too.

What is the purpose of the 'Warning Labels'?

We take our responsibility to provide suitable quality Christian films very seriously. We also wish to be as up front as possible about the content/language of the films selected for the FEST while still providing the best possible films. Sometimes these films push the boundaries of what Christian films are perceived to be. At TAFF we are not afraid of this. Christ’s message of love and redemption is for all. Some films will have content that is very difficult. At TAFF we weigh each film’s content against the impact it may have for Christ. Therefore, sometimes it is necessary to place a warning label on a film that pushes these boundaries. Please heed and respect these warnings as they are there to inform and protect.
